Our Hebrew Roots

Exploring Our Biblical Hetitage

Stephanie

What are you reading?

Is anyone reading anything wonderful at the moment or studying anything that's really spoken to your heart? Have you done a study lately that blessed you? I'm currently reading They Loved the Torah by David Friedman. It's good, but I haven't connected to it like I did with D. Thomas Lancaster's books. I'm enjoying it though and will see how it's changed or encouraged me when I'm finished. I'd love to hear what everyone else is studying! My focus right now has been on keeping Sabbath, and I'd really like to dig deeper. My problem is that there are so many areas that I want to learn about that I'm having to limit myself. :)

Sadly most of the reading I do is online. We don't have many books available here in Australia and as my husband is a pastor, not alot of funds available either, lol. I would love to know if anyone knows of any worthwhile ebooks or such that they could point me to.
My husband and I bought some books off Eddy Chumley once, but as we are in Australia I'm not even sure if he is considered a good teacher in this area.
My main source of reading in this area is The Complete Jewish Bible, which I just love. I bought it as a gift for my husband, but it's usually on my bedside table, lol.
Blessings,
Tracy

I love the CJB! My mother just got one for us, and it's been so much fun to read through. I'm a Bible junkie though. lol :) I have three or four that I use regularly. This has been our every day since we got it last week. In fact, I think it will be one that stays on the end table as well. I'm not familiar with Eddy Chumley, but that isn't saying anything. I've been pretty much reading books listed either on the Biblical Holidays website or on FFOZ. I did pick up a Sid Roth book that I really enjoyed called the Incomplete Church.

Do you have any websites that you really enjoy? I do a lot of reading online too because it's easy to fit in sometimes it seems. I love articles for when I have just a short bit of time. I can pop in and feed my soul between lessons with my daughter. :)

I can't really remember the websites I used to read. My husband went to a Hebrew Root's school which was held 1 long weekend a year for 4 years and much of what I know is from what he told me. I don't read alot about it now, as I have done study previously and have internalised it into our lives. My husband started his first pastoring position in a small country town just over 12 months ago and so that has been the main learning curve in our lives for a little while now ~smile~.
But joining this group has challenged me to start reading something again. I have 3 books by Eddie Chumney which I haven't read yet, "Who is the Bride of Christ?", "The Seven Festivals of the Messiah", and "Restoring the two Houses of Israel". I think I will start reading the second one as we are studying the Biblical Festivals this year. I will let you know how it goes, ~smile~.
Blessings,
Tracy
ps what is FFOZ? I probably know but can't think right now, lol.

FFOZ - First Fruits of Zion. Robin has a box to the right ---> with articles and blog entries from their website. They are a wealth of info. I haven't had the funds to invest in their Torah Club study, but that's my goal for this summer. My dh is self employed and after a tough 18 months and some changes he's decided to let the office go when the lease runs up and work from home like he used to do. Once that happens this summer I might be able to swing the monthly tuition for the study. I really enjoy the authors there. Another good website that I like to read from is Torah Resource. There are lots of studies for purchase here but a ton of free material to read or download.

It sounds like your new (or relatively new!) adventure is a fun one! Let us know how the books are. I've got his name down on my list to check out. I think I need to start a reading wish list on my page or blog so I can keep track and not loose them!

Shalom, I have been traveling down this path for many years now, but some of the books I read over the years are,
Fossilized Customs/ Lew White - Come out of her My People/ Koster - Who is Israel?/ Batya Wooten - Restoring the Jewishness of the Gospel/ David Stern (who is the commentator in the Complete Jewish Bible) -& Understanding the difficult words of jesus/ David Bivin
All of these are worth reading. I don't agree with it all, but there is a lot of good information.

I always said that if a book makes you think differently then it was a good book to read, even if you didn't agree with it. :)

I just got the Complete Jewish Bible. I think I'd love to read Restoring the Jewishness of the Gospel. Thanks for some more titles to add to my list. :)

Hi all! Well right now we're reading the Gospel's along with Torah Club Volume 4, as a project my son has for the summer before he goes back to school. We read a few chapters every night together, then we read and discuss the Torah Club notes. It's really been a blessing and we're all learning together!

Some other books we've read lately that are not Messianic but very interesting are -

"The Beast that Crouches at the Door: Adam & Eve, Cain & Abel and Beyond" by Rabbi David Fohrman
and we've just started
"Prophecies for the Era of Muslim Terror - A Torah Perspective on World Events"
by Rabbi Menachem Kohen

Thanks for the suggestions above also, there are a few more books to add to our reading!

Shalom Denise, I will look those books up. I recently read the book, Three Cups of Tea. I would highly recommend this book to anyone! Excellent.
I am currently reading Sala's Gift.

Shalom Jody!

Nice to meet you. I'm gonna look your suggestions up also. Another one I thought of that we read awhile ago was "Enmity Between the Seeds" by Bill Cloud. Also very, very, good!!
